Give me my freedom any day over living in an authoritarian regime--however, I want my advanced democracy to do a better job of responding to the will of the people and to do a better job at acting on behalf of the common good rather than just the part of the common good that agrees with you. Here's my liberal attitude toward political change coming through loud and clear but I do believe that we can tweak our system--much as the progressives did, must as the civil rights workers did--to make it more reflective of the common good rather than throw out the entire thing and start afresh. But that means doing something about the incredible ideological deadlock we are in at the moment. I agree with Friedman's assessment that the political infighting among liberals and conservatives in this country has made up forget all that we hold in common--namely a deep faith in the Constitution. I'm just not sure how to start healing the ideological divide. Any ideas?

It’s sad that money holds more weight in America then facts. Where are the masses of people speaking out against their incorrect accusations and projections? It is concerning that such ill-informed millionaires can carry so much weight in the politics of America. The Koch brother’s are only trying to advance their own needs, at the expense of potential jobs, improvements to the environment, and the future of this country. Its issues like this that, at least to me, makes communism seem pretty appealing. The lack of debate in China (theoretically) leaves no room for private enterprises to corrupt China’s policy making. China decides what is best for the future of China, and that’s it. It is quite frustrating to live in a system where the actions of those like the Koch brothers pull so much weight. The government has lost sight of serving its people and has gotten tangled up in a pointless debate. This also makes me question how well the American government can truly create policy that serves us, average citizens.
